Medical Health Technician

The primary purpose of the position to provide medical and administrative support assistance in the CBOC. The Medical Health Technician use word processing software to produce a variety of documents such as encounter forms, specialty procedures such as Electrocardiograms (EKG) and is responsible for administrative duties directly related to patient care and treatment. The Duties include but are not limited to:
Use database software to enter, revise, sort, and retrieve data for reports or review. Obtain all key information needed for walk in patients and initiates medical administrative processing of requests and forms. Assist in the orientation of physicians and other clinic personnel, serving as a source of information concerning regulations, policies and procedures. Schedule appointments, tests and coordinates all activities of the clinic area. Schedule appointments and generates appointment reminder letters for patients. Answer telephone inquiries regarding services available, procedures for enrollment, eligibility, co-payments, etc., providing accurate and timely information. Maintain various records and files, administratively processes patient transactions, reviews records for maintenance and sequencing of forms, entries, etc. Assist in preparing exam rooms for procedures, procedures and exams. Perform electrocardiograms and the daily cleaning and routine maintenance of the equipment. Perform venipuncture (as appropriate) and instructs patients in the proper procedures for preparing for blood work, 24-hour urine collection and collection of specimens for culture and sensitivity. Initiate basic life support measures as needed; and Perform other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring walking, or bending, walking or lifting. Must be able to assist patients who need help with standing, walking and sitting if needed. Incumbent must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time white working in the lab environment. Incumbent must be able to sit for long periods of time while on the ACD system. Requires use of fingers, near vision correctable at 13 to 16, Hearing (aid permitted). Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Experience:
You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience (equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service) that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Medical Health Technician, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the Medical Health Technician. Specialized experience is experience in chart review, data analysis reports, appointment management; consultant management and review; provide follow-up for scheduled appointments; experience with venipuncture techniques and specimen procurement procedures; and experience with safety principles and laboratory procedures and has knowledge of basic clerical procedures needed in a laboratory setting.
